And the winner is…

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

PRESTON! Congrats, Preston for winning the contest with your superb wit. We couldn’t resist naming you the winner with TWO funny entries, especially when you included Lewis — he always did love you in a special way, didn’t he? For you newcomers, Preston and Erica were the very first CHBC-ers to move to our neighborhood several years ago. Preston convinced Greg to move to Cheverly, then they both worked on Klon, and it’s been a domino effect ever since as many more of our friends have moved here. However, Preston is the only smart one so far who cashed in and bought an 18 bedroom house in Texas for what each of us probably paid for our garage. Below is a pic of the men during our first summer in Cheverly (2004). Time flies! Since then, Preston has become a die-hard Nascar fan, and we’re still trying to decide if we can still be friends.

Greg, Preston, & Klon…all that steak is for them.

Fun in Law-Law-Land

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Yesterday my sweet friend, Lisa, took care of Kate for me while I met with some women at church. Kate had a ball with Kathryn and especially all of Kathryn’s nifty toys! I may have to purchase a tunnel for her… Thanks for sharing your toys and your mommy, Kathryn!

A Bad Week to be a San Diego Sports Fan

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Chargers LogoThis week has been rough for Padres (baseball) and Chargers (football) fans. In case you didn’t realize, I (Greg) am a fan of both, having been born and raised in San Diego. On Sunday, the Chargers lost in the last 5 minutes of the game against the Green Bay Packers allowing the Pack to score two touchdowns in 64 seconds! The previous week the Bolts were man-handled by the Patriots losing 38-14. Last year’s MVP running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, has zero 100 yard games this season and doesn’t have a single run over 11 yards in 3 games. I’m pretty sure last year’s coach, Marty Schottenheimer, is laughing all the way to the bank as he collects settlement checks from the Chargers after they fired him for going 14-2 last year! Let’s hope the Chargers can turn it around this week against the Chiefs.

Padres LogoThings are even worse for the San Diego Padres who after winning 7 straight games, have dropped their last 4 falling into a tie with the Philadelphia, Phillies for the National League wild card playoff spot. During this recent losing streak, the Padres lost two key players to injury, Milton Bradley and Mike Cameron. Milton and Mike were the Padres’ best hitters on an offense ranked last in the League. This is not what you want heading into the final 6 games of the season.

My main reason for posting is because of the circumstances surrounding Milton’s torn ACL. The scuffle is something you have to see to believe (video is 1 min 36 secs).

There is no excuse for that kind of behavior even if he was provoked. Unfortunately, Milton isn’t very apologetic (video is 3 min). Perhaps after some reflection he’ll realize that two wrongs don’t make a right.

“Brothers don’t shake hands, brothers gotta hug!”

Monday, September 24th, 2007

When the Lord gave me two older brothers, he basically gave me 2 more dads! I might not have been so thankful for their oversight in my teen years, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve seen what a gift this has been to me. God also gave me three comedians in all the Croft men. I have laughed so hard at my brothers and my dad countless times. Brian loves to quote movies and make us all laugh (hence the title of this post…can you name that movie?) I am so grateful for the love of my brothers and the way the Lord continues to use them in my life. Yesterday was Brian’s birthday! Brian wears many hats : husband, father, pastor, brother, friend, and “crazy uncle.” He wears all these hats very well and in a way that honors Christ. We love him dearly and are so thankful for him! He and Cara come to visit us here in D.C. in less than 2 weeks! Brian and I already have a tennis match scheduled…could the time finally be here when I might actually beat him — my former tennis coach?! I doubt it…but miracles do happen.
